Highland distillery Tomatin has unveiled its latest travel retail exclusive, the 46% ABV 21-year-old, at Viking Line’s Cinderella Whiskey Fair which runs from 13-15 February.
The new addition, which has been matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, is available in selected outlets internationally including Amsterdam, Istanbul and Sydney airports for €175 (US$190) for a 700ml bottle.
Tomatin’s travel retail range comprises the 8-year-old (matured in bourbon and sherry casks), the 12-year-old (a 1-litre version of Tomatin’s flagship malt), the 15-year-old (matured in American Oak), and the 40-year-old (the premium oloroso sherry expression).
Tomatin Sales Director Graham Nicolson commented: “Our travel retail range has won dozens of awards over the years and I’m confident that the 21-year-old will perform incredibly well across the globe. Between 2018 and 2019, we experienced massive growth of over +70% [in travel retail], and thanks to exciting releases like the 21-year-old we’re expecting continued growth in this sector in 2020.”
Tasting notes
Maturation for over two decades has resulted in a light and smooth single malt. On the nose, subtle aromas of soft tropical fruits are complemented by warm flavours of freshly baked croissant, giving way to notes of apple and sweet honey on the palate, leaving a final, buttery finish.
