Tommy Hilfiger serves an ace with tennis icon Rafael Nadal

USA. Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has been named Global Ambassador for the Tommy Hilfiger brand’s underwear collection, ‘TH Bold’ fragrance and tailored collection.

The brand’s global advertising campaign was launched with a pop-up tennis event in New York earlier this week. It was, however, a tennis match with a difference. The 14-time Grand Slam winner found himself challenged by a selection of top models including Chanel Iman, Constance Jablonski, Hannah Davis, Noah Mills, Arthur Kulkov and Akin Akman, all dressed in custom Tommy Hilfiger looks.

Each time a team scored a point their opponents removed a piece of clothing, eventually unveiling the new Tommy Hilfiger men’s and women’s underwear designs.

Brand Owner and Designer Tommy Hilfiger said: “We’ve revamped our men’s underwear collection with a look that’s modern, athletic and bold, and Nadal is the ultimate global brand ambassador for this new direction.

“Since I first established my brand 30 years ago, we’ve always brought a unique twist to our designs and our advertising. Today’s event continues our tradition of bold, surprising campaigns and iconic ambassadors that celebrate our brand spirit and resonate with our consumers globally.

“Rafael Nadal has been a longtime personal friend and supporter of our brand, and I’m continually inspired by his dedication and passion for his sport. This exclusive partnership brings one of the greatest athletes of this generation into our Tommy family. Rafael embodies an effortless sense of style that exemplifies and reflects our brand spirit – he’s confident, fun and cool,” Hilfiger concluded.

Nadal commented: “I love how this event brings together fashion and sport with Tommy’s signature twist – it was the perfect way to kick-off my partnership with Tommy Hilfiger. I’m proud to be launching the new campaign in the middle of New York City with such an exciting event.”

The advertising campaign will run globally in top print publications, television, online and in billboards in key cities worldwide. The campaign imagery and video was shot in Nadal’s hometown in Mallorca, Spain.

The Fall 2015 Tommy Hilfiger underwear collection is said to refresh classic styles. Design innovations include a four-way flex stretch technology which, combined with top fabrics, ensures durability and comfort, the brand company said.

Tommy Hilfiger described its TH Bold fragrance as “strong and sporty”. TH Bold will be available at Tommy Hilfiger travel retail locations across the Americas from October 2015 and in selected European locations later in the autumn.
