THE NETHERLANDS. Dutch brand Tony’s Chocolonely has launched a chocolate bar that celebrates national heritage and marks the 750th anniversary of its home town Amsterdam*. Having been released through retail outlets in The Netherlands, it is now available at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The Amsterdam bar in Tony’s best-selling flavour Milk Caramel sea salt is wrapped in a festive Amsterdam print. It is sold through Schiphol Airport Retail stores from Schiphol Plaza to the airside terminal, including at Tony’s 50sq m monobrand store in Lounge 3 and the new Tony’s branded corner at D gates.
With this new launch, Tony’s said it is expanding its focus on sense of place, “offering a delicious taste of Amsterdam’s rich history and culture to travellers around the world”.
As with each Tony’s product, the Amsterdam bar is made with ethically-sourced beans from West Africa, with fair pay and sustainable practices central to the brand’s ethos. Tony’s sourcing principles ensure 100% traceable cocoa beans, long-term partnerships with cocoa cooperatives, paying a higher price for cocoa to enable a living income for farmers and investing in sustainable practices to boost productivity and quality. By sourcing this way, Tony’s said it wants to end widespread poverty and exploitation in the West African cocoa supply chain.
To highlight the inequality in the cocoa industry, the Amsterdam bar is unequally divided, like other Tony’s bars. Tony’s Chocolonely products are B Corp and Fairtrade-certified.
Schiphol Airport Retail (SAR) paid tribute to Tony’s Lead Export & Duty-Free Travel Retail Ivan van Kooten and Sales Support Coordinator Beyond Carla Mollenhauer for supporting the launch, alongside SAR Deputy Managing Director/Head of Operations Martine de Lang and Marketing, Advertising & Promotion Manager Lana Shaheen.
*The 750-year Amsterdam anniversary in 2025 is marked by a series of events, culminating in a city-wide celebration on 27 October. ✈
