ASIA PACIFIC. Ever Rich Duty Free has launched an electronics recycling initiative at Taoyuan International Airport.
As overseas travel resumes, the retailer said it is encouraging travellers to recycle their discarded electronics including SIM cards and batteries. The company has strategically placed six recycling stations in high-traffic zones across terminals 1 and 2.
The initiative promotes reduction in the tourism carbon footprint through collection and delivery of recyclable materials to qualified recycling plants for proper processing and reuse.
Ever Rich Duty Free President Kevin Chiang said, “Sustainability is a global trend and the responsibility of every inhabitant of Earth. As a member of Taoyuan International Airport’s carbon reduction programme, we are working with the airport to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and promote green airport practices.”
In 2022, Ever Rich Duty Free launched an internal challenge to reduce carbon emissions by 9 million kg. The simple yet essential measure of replacing regular lights with energy-saving LED lights resulted in savings of 14,274,293 Kilowatt hours of electricity in one year, which is equivalent to the power consumption of 3,873 households.
In addition, Ever Rich implemented paperless digital systems across all branches and headquarters, saving 16,813,653 pieces of paper – equivalent to preserving 5,604 20-year-old trees.
Ever Rich seeks to extend its positive impact by encouraging consumers to actively engage with global sustainability movements. For example, the company launched a member reward programme that offers 50 extra points to members who choose not to take a paper bag, saving 1.36 million paper bags in a year.
Duty free but not free of duty in Taiwan The sense of national and social duty, fundamental to the company’s ethos of the last 28 years, has never burned more brightly nor more urgently. |
It also invited consumers to join in environmental protection activities such as beach clean-ups. A total of 50 such activities were held throughout the year, resulting in the collection of 2,045.53kg garbage, equivalent to a carbon reduction of 10,393.8kg.
Ever Rich exceeded its goal of reducing carbon emissions by +124.03%, resulting in a total reduction of 11.16 million kg of carbon emissions. ✈
