Travel Value Association plots membership expansion – 01/10/09

Raoul Spanger: “The fact that the Travel Value programme has established itself so well in Europe is down to Harry Diehl’s dedication and creativity”

EUROPE. The Travel Value Association plans to expand, notably into Eastern Europe. That’s according to the recently re-elected Executive Board, which comprises Raoul Spanger (Management Board Member at Gebr Heinemann), Hellmut Gebhardt (Managing Director of Eurotrade at Munich Airport) and Dr. Thomas Immelmann (Director of Centre Management at Hamburg Airport).

The association currently has 38 members, from Norway to Dubai. If the airport activities of all its members are combined, the Travel Value Association represents 381 million air passengers every year.

Spanger, who is the association’s Chairman, said: “Travel Value is the most successful marketing concept for selling to people travelling by air within the EU. It is the best replacement in those countries where duty free shopping privileges have been withdrawn due to EU membership.

Because a number of East European states have recently acceded to the EU, the Travel Value Association is aiming to secure new members in this region.

“We offer the marketing concept to all companies for an annual membership fee of €1,000, a charge that we have deliberately maintained at an affordable level. We want to work together to achieve the best possible results for the EU travel market,” continued Spanger.

Heribert (Harry) Diehl, founder and inspiration behind the Travel Value Association, did not stand for re-election at the group’s recent meeting. The Executive Board thanked him warmly for his outstanding commitment.

Spanger said: “The fact that the Travel Value programme has established itself so well in Europe is down to his dedication and creativity.”
