UK. Leading foreign exchange company Travelex has launched what it said is a first-of-its-kind automated, self-serve currency kiosk at its landside departures store at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 2.
The new product features a fully automated service that allows customers to place their orders through a touch screen before collecting their cash from a designated ATM machine.
It offers an initial five currencies that reflect the main currency profiles in Terminal 2 (Euro, Swiss Franc, US Dollar, Canadian Dollar or Australian Dollar). Compared to ATMs, this kiosk does not have a cash withdrawal limit, enabling customers to order more currency.
Travelex has initially installed two kiosks and three designated ATMs at its Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 outlet.
These ATMs also offer regular services and allow customers to withdraw cash in either UK Pound or a smaller amount of foreign currency.
Travelex sales consultants are available to assist customers with their transactions.
The launch of this new service marks another milestone in the company’s new digital-focused approach. It said that it is increasing its investment in developing digital solutions, launching more innovative products and moving more nimbly in the style of a tech brand.
Earlier this year, Travelex relaunched the Travel Money Card app in partnership with online travel agency Kayak. The app allows customers to order a Travelex Money Card or cash, manage their card and search for flights, accommodations and rental cars.
In October 2022, the company also launched what it said is the industry’s first foreign currency ATM click & collect service in the UK and Australia. It has now been expanded across Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham airports.
The company has been increasing its investment into “digital first” airport experiences, including self-service stores and ATMs, across its international store portfolio.
Travelex CEO Richard Wazacz said: “Convenience is at the heart of our proposition, and so we are really excited to launch a new digital product that complements our existing services and further simplifies our customers’ access to travel money.
“As we continue to digitally transform both the front and back end of our business, the automated currency kiosk represents another significant landmark in that journey.”
Heathrow Director of Retail Fraser Brown added: “I am delighted that Heathrow’s longstanding partnership with our foreign exchange provider Travelex continues to grow and evolve.
“The launch of fully automated FX services is part of Heathrow’s recent digital acceleration, offering passengers greater choice on how they journey through Heathrow and supporting our vision of delivering the best airport service in the world.” ✈
