UK. TRGC (TRG Concessions) has revealed the Sussex House Kitchen & Bar in London Gatwick Airport North Terminal. The 221-cover venue has been designed by local firm Emma Wood Interiors to evoke a Sussex sense of place.
The restaurant and bar, located landside just before security, features a wide-ranging menu devised by TRGC Executive Food and Drinks Development Chef Ambarish Sarkar. The staple food offer is British pub classics with a focus on local flavours, suppliers and ingredients.
The breakfast menu includes specialist dishes such as the Smashed Avocado Croissant topped with a poached egg, crumbled feta and chilli oil. Options through the day include the handmade pork and chorizo scotch egg.
The drinks menu also has a local flavour, including TRGC’s Sussex Garden gin, distilled on-site in a copper still located close to the new venue’s bar.
The colour palette for Sussex House Kitchen & Bar is inspired by the colours and “spirit” of the Sussex countryside and the historic Bloomsbury Group, who resided in Sussex back in the early 1900s. This group was a collective of intellectuals, writers and artists who championed creativity and camaraderie, according to TRGC.
TRGC commissioned Sussex artist Jane McCall to create unique artworks for the restaurant. Her creations adorn the walls in large-scale canvasses and murals, on lampshades and even with motifs on cupboard doors.
Quirky, layered details appear throughout the restaurant, from artist paint palettes and vintage paraphernalia. The faux bookshelves include classic literary titles.
The overall feeling of Sussex House Kitchen & Bar is that of “a lived-in, inspiring retreat – a space where creativity thrives”, TRG noted.
TRGC Commercial Director Kirsten Pottinger told The Moodie Davitt Report: “The creation of this very special concept specifically for Gatwick Airport has been an absolute pleasure to develop and we are delighted with the result.
“The Sussex Kitchen & Bar is an all-encompassing tribute to local connections through its design created by the fabulous Sussex-based Emma Wood Interiors, menu content and local ingredients – truly evoking a sense of place.
“TRGC’s very own Sussex Garden-branded gin, made in our on-airport distillery, is the cherry on the cake and we look forward to welcoming and delighting Gatwick’s passengers and guests for many years to come.”
