Premium travel, business and lifestyle accessories brand Tumi has introduced three new colours to its Tegra-Lite travel collection. Viridian, Cerulean and Iridium will launch in Spring 2014, joining the existing assortment of Graphite, White and Black colour ways.
Designed and engineered in America, Tumi Tegra-Lite is said to combine durability and impact resistance in a protective, hard-side case that allows for lightweight ease and maneuverability.
Tegra-Lite made from Tegri, a breakthrough polypropylene thermoplastic composite material created by Milliken for use in lifesaving armour, NASCAR race cars and protective gear for National Football League players. It is an extruded filament that can be woven into fabric and then pressed into hard sheets. The Tumi and Milliken partnership on Tegris has been in development for several years; the product is exclusive to Tumi for travel and accessory products around the world.

Tegris is claimed to provide up to 15 times the impact resistance of typical thermoplastics composites and maintains this level of performance at low temperatures (-40°C). Because it is 100% polypropylene, Tegris offers significant weight reduction compared to other higher density, glass-filled composites, Tumi added.
The premium collection includes two-wheeled and four-wheeled carry-ons and several four-wheeled packing cases. Each piece is fully lined and features Tumi’s proprietary and award-winning design components.
Tumi said its commitment to the Tegra-Lite level of product innovation can be traced to its heritage. It pioneered the use of ballistic nylon in travel and business designs when it introduced the fabric to the consumer market over 30 years ago. Originally developed for military use in bulletproof vests, ballistic nylon is said to have become the standard for durability in travel and business cases.
