TURKEY. Turkish flag carrier Turk Hava Yollari (THY) had more than 10 million passengers in 2003, including five million on international routes.
The company registered a decrease in the number of passengers to the Middle East and Asia in the first half of 2003 due to the war in Iraq and the outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
THY also registered a decrease in the number of passengers to Japan, shortly after the two bomb attacks in Istanbul in November 2003, but the occupancy rate on the company’s planes rose to 100% by the end of 2003.
The largest number of international passengers was registered on flights to London, Tel Aviv, Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Amsterdam, Vienna and Dubai.
