Turning layovers into lift-offs – Avolta hosts flight simulator experience at Toronto Pearson Airport

CANADA. Leading travel retailer Avolta has introduced several eye-catching events and experiences to engage travellers at Toronto Pearson International Airport to coincide with the holiday travel period.

Among them is a flight simulator experience, a first for the company in its Americas duty-free network.

The simulator is located in Terminal 3 international departures, in front of the Toronto Duty Free store. Through January, Club Avolta members can sit in the captain’s seat and experience a virtual trip over the skies of Toronto, featuring aerial views of city landmarks and sights.

For added gamification, travellers can collect points as they navigate Toronto from above ― with each individual receiving a keepsake video of their virtual journey.

Avolta Senior Vice President of Digital, North America Atousa Ghoreichi said, “We’re taking retailtainment to new heights by blending innovation, technology and digital engagement into one immersive experience that transforms dwell time into a memorable, shareable moment.

“It’s a bold new expression of how travel retail can excite, entertain and connect with travellers. We’re grateful for our partnership with Toronto Pearson and our shared quest for innovative customer experiences.”

Rye rarity comes to travel retail

In another highlight from this period, the retailer has introduced a special edition Rye 1 whisky from Dillon’s Small Batch Distillers — a collaboration between Dillon’s, Toronto Pearson and Avolta.

Only 280 bottles of this exclusive blend have been crafted, with travellers passing through Terminal 1 recently having the opportunity to sample the barrel-aged whisky and meet with Geoff Dillon, Master Distiller and Founder of Dillon’s.

Toronto Pearson Airport Director of Concessions and Partnership Development Joe Daiello said, “Experiences like this reflect how Toronto Pearson is reimagining the airport journey – working with partners like Avolta to introduce innovative, engaging moments that entertain passengers.

“By turning time in the terminal into something interactive and memorable, we’re continuing to raise the bar for what travellers can expect at Canada’s largest airport.”
