Vancouver International Airport welcomes new concessions and reopened amenities

CANADA. As part of its journey to transform the dining offer, Vancouver International Airport has revealed a new dining concept, Root98, and reopened Plaza Premium Lounge in the Main Terminal.

During the pandemic, the Plaza Premium Lounge was closed to upgrade the space with a more modern look. The lounge offers a variety of services, in addition to snacks and craft cocktails.

Creating adjacencies: Root98 sits next to the updated Plaza Premium Lounge

“Vancouver Airport is thrilled that passengers moving through US departures can once again enjoy the Plaza Premium Lounge experience in its renovated lounge space and publicly accessible adjacent Root98 concept,” said a spokesperson for the airport.

“We recognise the importance of lounge-style amenities contributing to the enhancement of the passenger experience. Plaza Premium Lounges offer enhanced seating options, shower facilities, and a nursing room, all geared towards providing an environment for passengers to rejuvenate and refresh before their flight.”

Root98 is a dining concept also owned by Plaza Premium Group but which offers an eclectic menu of food options and sit-down bar to all travellers, regardless of lounge membership. In addition to the bar, food menu and grab-and-go selection, Root98 offers a wide selection of milk and fruit bubble teas from BlackBall Taiwanese Desserts.

“Contributing to the exceptional passenger experience is the opening of the adjacent Root98 that includes a full service bar and a selection of globally-inspired signature menu items made with fresh, local ingredients. Travellers with dietary requirements can also enjoy delicious vegetarian and gluten-free options,” said the airport spokesperson.

Further openings before the end of 2022 include: Salmon’n’Bannock On The Fly, which will be the first Indigenous-owned and -operated restaurant at an airport in Canada; Nourish By The Dirty Apron is a Vancouver-based deli opening its second location in the domestic departures terminal. Early 2023 will see the opening of purebread, a Whistler, BC-based, family-owned bakery.

“Vancouver Airport is on a journey to transform the airport culinary experience and that journey is currently underway,” said the airport spokesperson. “These additions feature fresh, healthy, locally made grab-and-go items for travellers to enjoy in the terminal and onboard their aircraft.”
