WDF celebrates official launch of Edinburgh Airport store

UK. Following the completion by BAA of its new security area at Edinburgh Airport on 30 June, WDF officially launched its World Duty Free store today (2 July).

The store is the centrepiece of the newly designed airport facilities and has been relocated to sit immediately opposite the entrance into the Departure Lounge.

With 6,942sq ft of retail space it is larger than the 4,769sq ft World Duty Free store it replaces. A first for World Duty Free, it also features a shop-in-shop format with the inclusion of the new-look World of Whiskies specialist store within the main tax and duty free space.

One of the most immediate and striking features of World Duty Free at Edinburgh are its oversized ‘Contentainment’ screens, located on the exterior of the store over the main entrance. With the completion of the Central Search area, these screens are now a major feature of the airport itself and are designed to be a focal point for passengers.

New brand introductions

Several new brands have been introduced to the Edinburgh store, including Pandora jewellery and premium beauty brands such as Sisley, Chanel colour and skincare and Tom Ford.

The range of premium whiskies on offer has also been extended to meet customer demand for more unique and rare expressions, the retailer said. All are showcased in the World of Whiskies specialist store, where customers can benefit from the knowledge and advice of the expert staff.

Commenting on the new development at Edinburgh, WDF Retail Director Fred Creighton said: “We are delighted to have been able to work in close partnership with our colleagues at BAA to develop a first-class store that complements their fantastic new airport facilities.”

Edinburgh Airport Managing Director Gordon Dewar added: “We have made a significant investment in the redevelopment and transformation of the airport and we are delighted with the key part played in this by WDF. Our airport handles 9 million passengers each year and is forecast to grow. This creation of the stunning new World Duty Free store gives passengers a world-class retail opportunity and is central to our expansion.”
