WHSmith North America opens new speciality store at Salt Lake City International Airport

Evoking a Sense of Place, the new retail concept features a design inspired by the natural landscapes in Utah

USA. WHSmith North America, incorporating Marshall Retail Group and InMotion, has unveiled a new speciality retail concept at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).

Located inside Concourse A, the Public Market includes a dedicated news/convenience store on one side and a fashion/lifestyle concept on the other.

The stores’ design elements reflect Utah’s mountain ranges surrounding the city, featuring light wood pallets on the wall, complemented by bright lighting and colour schemes.

The fashion/lifestyle concept offers products from Utah vendors and national brands including Tentree, Herschel and Socksmith, which all share the same sustainability values.

This new lifestyle store features products from socially responsible companies

It also focuses on companies with charitable initiatives including Parks, a lifestyle brand that aims to protect and preserve national parks, and Pura Vida, a bracelet and jewellery business that has donated over US$4 million to charity.

Utah carry goods seller Thread Wallets is another brand available at the store. It operates a nonprofit, the Carry On Foundation, established to teach resilience and promote mental health through sports.

The news/convenience store offers a wide range of products from Utah vendors including reading materials, snacks, gifts and other travel essentials.

The new retail concept offers locally made food products

These local vendors include pure natural honey brand Cox Honeyland, family-run Avenue Sweets, V Chocolates, which specialises in toffees and caramels, Salt Lake City popcorn and snacks brand Pop Art, and Gary’s Gourmet Caramel Corn, founded in Pleasant Grove.

WHSmith North America CEO Toby Keir said: “WHSmith North America is passionate about tailoring each new concept to reflect its surrounding city.

“Public Market perfectly captures the essence and beauty of Salt Lake City. It has been a pleasure to partner with the teams at Salt Lake City Department of Airports and we are thankful for the opportunity to provide such a unique concept to Salt Lake City travellers.”

WHSmith North America has revealed another concept scheduled to open later this year. The new concept will be developed in collaboration with Utah Jazz, featuring popular merchandise from the basketball team. ✈
