UK. Technology and accessories retailer InMotion, owned by WHSmith, has opened the first of four new stores planned for London Gatwick Airport in the North Terminal departure lounge.
The store’s product offer includes tablets, digital action cameras and headphones, as well as an extensive range of travel accessories such as adaptors, portable chargers and cases.
This new store is one of 30 which will open in UK airports before the end of August 2022, after WHSmith won a number of new consumer technology concessions earlier this year.
WHSmith will invest about £18 million (US$24 million) in capex and working capital relating to these stores.
Gatwick Airport Director of Retail Rachel Bulford said: “We are delighted to welcome InMotion to Gatwick, providing departing passengers with a fantastic tech and gadget offering.
“As the airport continues to get busier, especially ahead of the festive season, it’s very exciting to be able to open another new store within our North Terminal, following the additions of restaurants Tortilla and Juniper and Co. in September.”
WHSmith Travel Managing Director Andrew Harrison said: “Technology is an increasingly essential part of our customers’ journeys and our InMotion stores have been designed to make it easy for people not only to experience the latest products, but also to get the help and advice they need to make the right choices.
“We can’t wait to get the first of four InMotion stores at Gatwick open and start welcoming customers.”
The second of the four stores, to be situated in a larger space, will open in the North Terminal at the end of January 2022.
