Big plans: Francesco ScaglioneUK. Whyte & Mackay has appointed a new Global Travel Retail Director as it seeks to build its premium whisky business in key markets such as America, Asia, Russia and the Middle East.
Francesco Scaglione joins the Glasgow-based company after spending seven years with Allied Domecq and then Pernod Ricard after the two firms joined forces in 2005.
He started his drinks sales career as Account Manager, looking after Italy and Greece, then worked his way up to the position of International Commercial Manager for North America.
Before that, the hockey-loving Italian-Canadian worked for the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Canon.
Commenting on his new appointment, Scaglione said: “I loved my time at Pernod Ricard, but it was time for a change and a new challenge. I am really impressed with Whyte & Mackay and its future plans, and as importantly its commitment to growing brands and the role that travel retail can play in those plans.
“Whyte & Mackay is a company that is going places with huge potential, and I want to be part of that success story.”
Scaglione believes that travel retail is the best place to showcase the company’s most prestigious brands. “I believe we can be the preferred premium and luxury whisky partner for the travel sector. We have the right and best products, and with the right promotion and pricing plans, we can create a win win situation for all – us, our customers and our consumers.”
The new Whyte & Mackay director has big plans for the future, but is playing his cards close to his chest until the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes next month.
“Watch this space,” he enthused. “Some, but not all of my plans will be revealed at a special event at Cannes. The event itself promises to be something special and in keeping with the premiumisation of our range and offering to the duty free sector.”
