US. The second meeting of the Duty Free & Travel Retail World Council took place on the eve of the Duty Free Show of the Americas in Orlando last week with a dozen associations present.
Representatives reviewed the outcome of the WHO tobacco issue and heard reports from the two key lobbyists, Jon Kent of IAADFS and Keith Spinks of ITRC. The Council agreed to maintain a watching brief on this and any subsequent WHO and industry-related issues.
The Council agreed a basic work programme for the next couple of months, to be reviewed when the Council meets on 21st May at TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore.
The Council agreed that Sarah Branquinho of BAA would act as coordinator and draw up proposals for a number of projects, whilst IAADFS and TFWA would start to establish parameters for an industry-wide database. It is expected that significant progress on these issues will be made in time for the next meeting.
