Wine and spirits distributor World of Patria International (WOPI) will be headlining its new älska cider brand alongside new wines from Yellow Tail at the TFWA World Exhibition next month (Blue Village G13).
älska – which means “˜love’ in Swedish – is a new fruit cider by Stockholm-based The Swedish Cider Company said to be already hugely popular in domestic markets. The cider is now exclusively available in duty free and travel retail from WOPI.
älska is available in three subtle, fruity flavours – Nordic Berry, Lemon & Ginger and Strawberry & Lime – which are expected to be highly appealing to the female ‘millennial’ drinker.
The sleek 33cl can is designed to be travel-friendly while delivering high standout value; the use of the ‘ä’ symbol giving it a distinct brand identity.
World of Patria International Managing Director Rob Nichols commented: “Over the past couple of years we have seen a real trend emerging with regards to flavoured cider, especially within the female population. älska is the perfect solution to this trend and gives us a real advantage in the travel retail market, as there isn’t anything like this out there.
“The sleek packaging is definitely its greatest USP, the combination of a great flavoured cider and also a small, feminine friendly can (rather than a bottle) is sure to appeal to both female travellers and airlines.”

Besides älska cider, WOPI will also be introducing three new wines from Australian wine brand Yellow Tail.
“We are always on the lookout for exciting new products that will help us strengthen our portfolio,” Nichols said. “Yellow Tail is a well-known Australian wine brand and we are pleased to have been chosen to be the distributor to help to launch them into travel retail. We have a good deal of experience in handling wine brands and we are confident Yellow Tail will have a successful future in travel retail.”
The three new varieties to be presented in Cannes are Big Bold Red, combining hints of spice with flavours of raspberries and strawberry jam; Riesling, a floral wine in a pale straw yellow colour with green tinges and aromas of lemon, citrus and peach; and Jammy Red Roo, a mixture of predominantly Shiraz (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) with flavours of red berries, vanilla and chocolate.
