Zurich Airport commercial turnover climbs by double digits in 2023 but average spend falls

SWITZERLAND. Zurich Airport retail and dining turnover reached CHF609.3 million (US$712.6 million) in 2023, up by +19.2% year-on-year, though the growth figure lagged behind passenger traffic, which climbed by +28% to 28.9 million.

The key number for airside spend per departing passenger slipped -1.8% compared to 2022 to CHF23.60 (US$27.60).

Across the 12 months, sales growth was propelled by airside stores and restaurants, which showed a +25.7% rise, with sales from landside outlets up +11.8%.In December, retail and dining turnover hit CHF54.9 million (US$64.2 million), up by +10.9% year-on-year and up +3.3% compared to the same period in 2019. Airside average spend fell by -2.8% compared to a year earlier to CHF26.00 (US$30.40).

Passenger traffic in the month climbed by +15.2% year-on-year to 2.2 million.

European passenger volumes reached 95.3% of December 2019 levels and intercontinental traffic hit 90.8% of pre-pandemic levels in the month. ✈
