Zurich Airport extends Avolta duty free, convenience and F&B contracts

SWITZERLAND. Avolta has extended its agreements for 45 duty-free, duty-paid, convenience and F&B concessions across more than 10,000sq m at Zurich Airport.

The travel retailer’s duty-free contract, due to end in 2028, has been extended to the end of 2035.

Avolta will continue to operate 24 travel retail stores, including all of the airport’s 17 duty-free concepts in departures and arrivals, alongside convenience formats.

The Avolta departures duty-free arena spans two levels, with Swiss brands to the fore across categories

In addition, the company will introduce three new landside retail stores as part of Zurich Airport’s landside redevelopment.

The travel retail portfolio will encompass duty-free stores, Avolta’s convenience brand Hudson, Swiss luxury beauty brand La Prairie, plus new stores from wellness brand Rituals and travel accessory concept, Travelstar, among others.

Avolta will continue to operate 18 food & beverage outlets under an extended deal, supporting the continued modernisation and expansion of its dining portfolio at Zurich Airport with the introduction of new outlets alongside the evolution of established formats.

Alongside the contract extensions, Avolta has secured space at Zurich Airport’s business hub, The Circle, to create a modern workspace, showcasing Avolta Next, the company’s innovation arm focused on scaling next-generation concepts and technologies.

“This extension reflects the strength of our partnership with Zurich Airport, a proof point of our combined business model, and the confidence placed in Avolta’s ability to deliver consistently at scale,” said Avolta President and CEO EMEA Luis Marin.

“It secures a strategically important platform for continued investment, innovation and portfolio development, while reinforcing Zurich Airport’s role as a location where we develop and validate concepts that can be scaled across our global network.”

Zurich Airport Chief Commercial Officer Stefan Gross said, “Zurich Airport Ltd. is delighted to continue its successful partnership with Avolta and to further develop the commercial experience at Switzerland’s largest airport together.”

An airport company statement added, “The early extension reflects the long‑standing and successful partnership with the world’s leading travel retail and travel F&B provider. The concession fees of the agreement remain unchanged.

“The contract extension provides planning certainty and enables continued targeted investments in the further development of commercial areas. At the same time, it ensures that passengers will continue to benefit from an attractive and comprehensive offering, even during construction-related restrictions as part of the Dock A replacement project.”
