BELGIUM. Godiva Chocolatier has recorded a strong double-digit increase in duty free sales throughout the Asia Pacific region in the six months fiscal year to date, compared to the same period in 2004. This follows an over-+50% pick-up in gross sales for the company in fiscal 2004, compared to 2003.
“Sales have bounced back strongly after SARS, and are continuing to grow in a very healthy way,” said Travel Retail Manager and Business Development Manager CS Lam.
As the company looks forward to TFWA Asia Pacific later this month, Godiva is planning to step up distribution this year. The firm has listings in 14 countries covering airline, airport and downtown outlets.
At TFWA Asia Pacific (stand F21), Godiva is introducing its new travel retail self-treat range, along with the new five-bar prepack. The new Godiva Bars come in three flavours: Milk, Dark 50% Cocoa and Dark 72% Cocoa. Each single bar weighs 49g and is presented in stylish packaging that reinforces the company’s premium positioning. For impactful presentation, a new counter-top metal merchandiser has been developed that holds 72 bars on three levels, allowing all flavours to be displayed in minimal space (30cm x 15cm x 29cm).
“We’ve introduced the Godiva Bars to meet the growing demand in travel retail for self-consumption products which, in this case, don’t compromise on quality for the sake of convenience,” said Godiva Duty Free and Travel Retail Manager Worldwide Gerry Murray. “The added bonus of the merchandiser, which is in itself contemporary, compact and stylish, gives the retailer a great opportunity to generate additional impulse sales and profitability.”
The Godiva Bars Prepack contains the three flavours mentioned above, along with Milk Praline Nougatine and Dark Raspberry. Both filled bars have been improved in quality and all five carry the Godiva G signature. In addition, the wrapper design has been improved to better differentiate between the product flavours, and for stronger shelf visibility. Packaging is completed with a dark cardboard base printed in gold and a fully transparent lid to exploit the wrapper design.
