NETHERLANDS. Leading Dutch travel retailer Kappé has signed a new five-year concession agreement at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol – a move that coincides with the company’s 60th anniversary.
The deal covers beauty, drugstore and sunglasses stores at the airport’s Schiphol World Avenue.
The parties said in a statement: “Schiphol Amsterdam Airport and Kappé are delighted that a new agreement has been reached in an open and respectful manner. Through this agreement both parties have agreed on a joint commitment to serve passengers in a professional and guest-friendly way.”
At a ceremony held at Kappé’s head office, Schiphol Group Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Maarten de Groof said: “We congratulate Kappé on its 60th anniversary. Having started at the airport as a hairdressing salon that subsequently expanded to include the sale of tax free perfume products, today – more than half a century later – Kappé is a multifaceted international enterprise that offers a valued service for our passengers.

“The signing of the new contract seals our ongoing partnership, and we look forward to continue building an inspiring and welcoming AirportCity with a wide range of products and services to meet the needs of 40-50 million passengers each year.”
Kappé Owner Jacques Parson said he was very proud and honoured to sign this agreement on the 60th anniversary of the family company. The continuation of the business partnership is based on a wonderful history of Kappé at Schiphol, he noted. Parson also paid tribute to his staff and other stakeholders who, he said, make the business an ongoing success.
As previously reported, Kappé and Schiphol Group entered talks over a new concession last year, after the retailer won a landmark court ruling in May that allowed it to retain its business.
The company’s tenure as concessionaire had been placed under threat following a court challenge from Schiphol Group, which had wanted to take over the Kappé business following the expiry of the concessionaire’s previous five-year contract in 2008. But that challenge was successfully countered by the retailer in court, and the two parties have been working on a new agreement since.
