MCM inaugurates Hong Kong flagship in glittering ceremony

Models showcased the MCM collection to the media before the ribbon-cutting ceremony began in Hong Kong

HONG KONG. MCM has unveiled its flagship store in one of the most prominent positions in Hong Kong’s fashion mecca – the Entertainment Building in Central.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony on 27 May was attended by international stars Rain and Sammi Cheng; MCM CEO and Chairwoman Sung-Joo Kim; MCM Advisory Creative Director Michael Michalsky; Werner Lauk, the General Counsel of Germany in Hong Kong; and Angela Ho, the landlord of the Entertainment Building. The event was followed by a late night party featuring the “MCM Vibe” on the same evening with more than 600 guests including local celebrities.

The new Hong Kong boutique is MCM’s largest flagship and is ten times the size of the German brand’s first store in the city. The 1,000sq m boutique showcases the complete product range as well as an exclusive Entertainment Building limited collection trio, which was launched at the grand opening as a special celebration. The limited-edition series comprises the Rain for MCM Collection, Munich Collection and M-Evening Clutch Collection.

Adorned with a magnificent two-storey wall of iconic logo-engraved brass plates, the new store’s dazzling gold brass plate façade is placed against the majestic backdrop of Hong Kong’s historic Entertainment Building. The octagonal-shaped interior presents a gallery-like space with a double-height ceiling featuring diamond-shaped detailing.

With a mix of contemporary clean lines, subtle neutral tones and touches of tradition, the store was designed to reflect the combination of modernity and heritage embodied in the German brand. It also represents another historic milestone in MCM’s 35th anniversary year, as well as a strategic move and gateway for the brand’s expansion into the China region.

An exclusive, secluded VIP room is also featured in the new boutique.

Guests at the ribbon-cutting ceremony included MCM CEO Sung-Joo Kim; MCM Advisory Creative Director Michael Michalsky; celebrities Sammi Cheng and Rain; Angela Ho; and Werner Lauk, General Counsel of Germany in Hong Kong

Rain for MCM Collection

World-renowned celebrity Rain has created a one-of-a-kind gift item for the MCM flagship store. The first pieces of this limited-edition series include MCM’s popular backpack and messenger bag in luxurious croco-embossed leather in two colours: red and black. Rain’s signature is studded onto the bag, which has a special limited-edition label inside. Only a limited number were offered for purchase by special order during the grand opening event.

Munich Collection

Inspired by modern Munich, the city that gave birth to the brand, the elegant Munich Collection is equally suitable for casual and formal occasions. Made from goatskin, the bags are available in four colours: beige, pink, blue and brown. Each bag comes with a detachable two-toned fur charm and tassel. The charm itself is made of mink, adding a luxurious accent to the Munich bag. A limited number of 36 bags will be offered for sale exclusively at MCM’s flagship store in Hong Kong.

M-Evening Clutch Collection

A reinterpretation of the “M” shape for MCM inspired this collection’s distinctive layout of crystal studs on the clutch. Meticulously handmade by Italian craftsmen, these clutch bags are available in silver, gold, grey and red. Other limited-edition clutches include the Satin Clutch, the Crystal Clutch and the Folded Clutch. This exclusive pre-launch is taking place only at MCM’s flagship store in Hong Kong.
