Habanos launches Montecristo Double Edmundo with new packaging

Habanos SA has launched the Montecristo Double Edmundo, a new vitola from its Montecristo brand.

The original Edmundo was introduced by Montecristo in 2004, aimed at satisfying the demand for heavy ring gauge vitolas. This was followed by the launch of a shorter version, the Petit Edmundo, two years later.

The addition of the new Double Edmundo (ring gauge 50 and 155 mm length) adds to the line, offering a smoking time of around an hour. This vitola is targeted at smokers who prefer to enjoy their cigars at a more leisurely pace, Habanos said.

Incorporating the new Montecristo ring, the Double Edmundo will be presented in boxes featuring a new protective bofetón (protective leaf of paper inside the box) as well as a papeleta (rectangular seal on the side of the box) so that they can be easily identified on the shelves, said Habanos. These enhancements will gradually be applied to the rest of the vitolas and to the packaging of the Edmundo range.

Montecristo Double Edmundo is starting to roll out worldwide in wooden boxes of 25 and 10 units. A three-unit pack will launch soon after.

All Montecristo Habanos have been made “˜Totalmente a Mano, con Tripa Larga’ (“˜Totally Handmade, with Long Filler’), with selected leaves from the Vuelta Abajo (D.O.P) tobacco plantations in the region of Pinar del Río and produced by expert Cuban cigar rollers.
