MEXICO. Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), which operates nine airports in the southeast of Mexico, saw healthy traffic growth across its network last year, with passenger numbers topping 21 million.
Total passenger traffic was up +9.5% across Cancún, Mérida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlán airports. Cancún accounts for the vast majority of the traffic.
Domestic traffic hit 9.4 million, up +8.5%, while international traffic rose by +10.3% to 11.7 million. The busiest month was July, when 2.1 million people flew through the airports.

In addition to operating, maintaining and developing the nine airports, ASUR is also a 50% joint venture partner in Aerostar Airport Holdings, operator of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Master development approved
In other news, ASUR has received approval from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation for Master Development projects at its Mexican concessions for the period to 2028.
At Cancún, its main airport, it has committed to investing Ps5.6 billion (US$424.7 million) between 2014 and 2018, Ps1.5 billion (US$110.9 million) between 2019 and 2023 and Ps1.3 billion (US$102.7 million) between 2024 and 2028.
