UK. Portland Design has appointed Charles Billot as Digital Director as it seeks to enhance its digital capabilities and build a digital team.
Portland said it hired Billot for his expertise in fusing the digital with physical. His team’s capabilities will also be accessed by the branded environments team at global architecture and design company Perkins+Will – Portland’s parent company.
Billot joins Portland from technology design studio Hive, where he was a director with oversight of new business and strategy, working with Google, Tesco, P&G and others.
Prior to Hive, Billot was a commercial consultant with Weve, the joint mobile venture from Telefonica, EE, and Vodafone. Billot also previously worked at retail design company Dalziel + Pow, Omnicom digital agency Weapon7 and WPP’s Wunderman.
Portland Design CEO Ibrahim Ibrahim said: “We are very pleased to have Charles on board after a long search for someone with the right understanding of how the physical and digital work together to create engaging experiences of place and brand. Charles will apply his expertise to various fields in which our clients operate such as retail, entertainment, mixed-use, transportation and urban regeneration to make these experiences even richer.
“His appointment and the building out of our digital team are the next logical steps for us following our long-standing recognition of how consumer expectations and behaviours are being changed by technology, which has informed our work to future proof clients’ businesses.”
Charles Billot commented: “I am thrilled to be joining the Portland team and to have the opportunity to work with some of the most strategic and innovative designers in the industry. The Portland digital proposition will offer the same ‘people-first’ approach as the existing principle. Connecting experiences using products and platforms, while putting people first, then the technology, is the only way our consumer experience ideas will be future-proofed.”
