China Duty Free Group set to open third Cambodian store

CAMBODIA. China Duty Free Group (CDFG) opens its third Cambodian downtown store in Phnom Penh on 17 August.

The 4,000sq m store is housed in an integrated entertainment destination, Naga City Walk, which will provide high-end shopping options to tourist and business travellers, according to the retailer.

The outlet features over 200 leading brands across fragrances, cosmetics, jewellery, sunglasses, watches, travel goods, liquor & tobacco, confectionery, fashion and local products.

Among the brands on offer on opening day are Longines, Tissot, Swarovski, Samsonite and Prada sunglasses alongside Cambodian local specialties, liquor and some tobacco brands.

By the end of September further brands will include Estée Lauder, Kiehl’s, La Mer, Lancôme, Rimowa and Tumi. By year-end other brands will appear, among them Armani, Coach, Furla and Collezioni.

CDFG said in a statement: “With the smooth opening of Phnom Penh Duty Free Shop, together with Angkor Duty Free Shop and Sihanoukville Duty Free Shop, [this] will write a new chapter in the tourism industry in Cambodia.”

The company has developed a promotional campaign to coincide with the opening, with a -15% on all purchases among the highlights. Shoppers who spend US$100 will receive a gift, as will visitors who like the company’s Facebook page or engage with CDFG’s WeChat account.

CDFG reiterated its commitment to expanding its overseas business under its plan to develop the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’.

The retailer’s Angkor Duty Free Shop opened on 30 December 2014, with Sihanoukville Duty Free opening a year later.

It noted: “China Duty Free has completed its duty free mission by provided high-end duty free shopping in the three main cities of Cambodia. In representing the biggest travel group in China, the policy [to develop] ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ creates a strong relationship between China and Cambodia. With the opening of the Phnom Penh duty free store we will make a significant contribution to the Cambodian economy.”
