Hamad International reports +8% first half growth in passenger traffic

QATAR. Hamad International Airport has reported a +8% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic in the first six months of 2017.

The airport served 19 million passengers for its busiest six month period to date.

Hamad International has this year been classified as a ‘5 Star Airport’ by Skytrax, with only five other airports in the world achieving that status

However, traffic at the airport is currently being impacted by the blockade of Qatar being imposed by its Gulf neighbours led by Saudi Arabia. Many airlines have suspended flights to Qatar, while most airspace has been closed to flag carrier Qatar Airways – save for a narrow corridor – causing widespread delays and disruption.

In the latest developments, Qatar said it would not negotiate with its neighbours unless the trade and travel boycott was lifted first, while the UAE said the blockade could last for years unless soon-to-be-announced demands are accepted.
