UK. Scorpio Worldwide has launched a fund-raising drive in support of the Alzheimer’s Society, a UK care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers.
Four members of the Scorpio team will take part in the annual London to Brighton Cycle Ride on 16 September. They will cycle the 57 miles to support family members and hope to raise at least £5,000 for a cause that is close to their hearts.
Scorpio Worldwide explains its commitment on its JustGiving page, where companies and individuals can donate. “The team at Scorpio, like so many people, are experiencing first-hand the tragic effects of family members suffering from Alzheimer’s – this terrible disease that has such a detrimental impact on previously ‘normal’ life.
“For the Alzheimer’s sufferer, simple tasks become impossible, character can change, confusion and embarrassment can take over and sadness and anger creep in. For the loved ones, heartbreak takes over during the bad days, the desperation that people who we have known our whole lives can no longer say our names, or even recognise us.”

Scorpio Worldwide Operations Manager Neil Stevenson is supporting his wife, Susan, whose father, Fred Mulford, suffered from the disease and has sadly passed away. He was a well-loved and respected husband, father and grandfather.
Scorpio Worldwide CEO Stuart McGuire and his wife Jaclyn, who is Marketing Coordination Director, are supporting Bruce McGuire, Stuart’s father, and Bruce’s wife Jill.
“My Dad was always very sharp, super enthusiastic, full of energy, fitness, humour, entertaining and of course great at business. Everything we do as a company is due to the entrepreneurial spirit and charisma that delighted people everywhere.” – Stuart McGuire
Bruce McGuire is a well-known and much respected figure in the travel retail industry.
Stuart McGuire commented: “My Dad was always very sharp, super enthusiastic, full of energy, fitness, humour, entertaining and of course great at business. Everything we do as a company is due to the entrepreneurial spirit and charisma that delighted people everywhere.
“It is awful to see him struggle with simple tasks and functions, and often I can see the frustration in his eyes which is heart breaking. There is still the ‘Bruce’ sparkle at times, and he still brings joy wherever he goes, so we are all hoping there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime, we hope this fundraising project helps to find a more permanent cure.”
McGuire said he hoped the fundraising efforts would exceed the £5,000 target.
Scorpio Design Manager Richard Walford will also take part in the cycling event, while other Scorpio team members will offer support and refreshments.
