INDIA. The GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) – the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of airport developer and operator GMR Group – is contributing to efforts to support frontline COVID-19 workers throughout India.
A team of over 600 GMRVF-trained volunteers has produced more than 65,000 masks which have been distributed to workers across the country. The female volunteers work from home or in local production centres.
Over the past four months, 14 women – who normally stitch jute bags at the GMRVF centre in Telangana, Hyderabad – have produced more than 30,000 masks and 6,000 PPE kits.
The masks have been distributed to local villages and airport personnel while the PPE kits, which include head caps, full-length gowns, shoe covers and gloves, support medical centre employees. They are also featured at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) international departures Empower store.
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) CEO Pradeep Panicker said: “We feel proud that our GMRVF’s skilled women are at the forefront producing PPE and masks to equip the frontline COVID warriors.
“As an organisation we are committed to our social responsibilities and we are glad that our empowered women are helping people at this crucial hour when it is needed the most. Our volunteers continue to serve for a dedicated cause and are glad to help communities in this way.”
