AMERICAS. Personal protection brand SaniGo vows to take a stand against single-use face masks, by showcasing its biodegradable face mask at the Summit of the Americas — A Virtual Experience.
SaniGo will also be presenting its range of personal hygiene and travel protection sets, the Platinum and Voyager Travel Kits.
“In addition to showcasing SaniGo’s standard travel protection kits, SaniGo is taking a stand on the environmental impact of single-use masks,” says Head of Business Development Janice Jenner as she prepares for the brand’s first-ever showing at the regional travel retail event, this year held virtually.
“We know that hygiene and safety come first above all,” Jenner adds, “but we want consumers and businesses to feel comfortable that their dedication to fighting Covid doesn’t come at a cost to the natural ecosystem.”

As reported, the all-digital Summit of the Americas is being organised by the International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) and Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report (which organised the successful Virtual Travel Retail Expo from 12-16 October and will reprise that even on 18-22 October this year).
According to a study in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, an estimated 129 billion disposable face masks are used every month worldwide. Jenner notes that most single-use protective equipment are made with petroleum-based plastic materials, which cause a significant amount of plastic pollution.

“Most single-use protective gear is made from plastics including polypropylene, polythene and vinyl, which provides the highest level of hygiene for both medical staff on the frontline, and members of the public. In addition, disposable plastic masks could take up to 450 years to decompose, according to campaign group Waste Free Oceans,” Jenner adds.
SaniGo seeks to offer Summit visitors a sustainable alternative to this pollution pandemic. Jenner says, “SaniGo’s new compostable, biodegradable single use masks offer the highest level of personal protection available on the market, without the plastic pollution associated with all other single use masks.”
“We will be offering the new SaniGo compostable, biodegradable masks in consumer packs of five, packs of ten and in bulk orders.”
According to Jenner, boosting traveller confidence is key to driving industry recovery, and SaniGo is the perfect partner to help travel retail stakeholders achieve that goal. She says, “We want to make sure that consumers feel comfortable when they are travelling. We want to help retailers and airlines give more reassurance to get people flying again. Our travel protection bags offer high-quality products including a sterilised seat cover, face masks, sanitary wipes, hand sanitiser, hand cream and garbage bag.
“We’ve packaged all these essentials in a travel bag, offering the customer the convenience of picking everything up for their journey in one easy pack. We would love to speak to duty free and other airport retailers as well as airlines.”
SaniGo’s Platinum Travel Kits are designed for business travellers and comprise a KN95 Face Mask, three-ply face masks, gloves, wet wipes, hand sanitiser, hand cream, garbage disposal bags and non-woven sterile seat covers.
The Voyager Travel Kits were developed for short-haul coach and train rides and are available at a lower price point. They offer the same items as the Platinum Travel Kit but at smaller quantities.
The Summit of the Americas – A Virtual Experience is open to airports and all other landlords from travel-related sectors; retailers, food & beverage operators and other commercial service providers; brands, agents & distributors; media and other relevant parties.
