Ian Macleod Distillers has collaborated with Dufry’s World Duty Free to launch an exclusive range for super-premium Highland single malt Scotch whisky, Glengoyne.
Glengoyne The Spirit of Time – Travel Exclusive Collection is part of the brand’s global relaunch, designed to underline its “unhurried approach” to whisky making. The collection launched exclusively with World Duty Free this month with promotions including a high-profile activation at Edinburgh Airport before its roll-out to selected global locations.
Ian Macleod Distillers Global Travel Retail Director William Ovens said: “We are delighted to introduce to global travel retail The Spirit of Time, a collection which captures the very essence of Glengoyne, Scotland’s slowest-distilled malt whisky.
“The Spirit of Time celebrates the role time plays in making whisky at Glengoyne Distillery where for every minute other whiskies spend in stills ours spends three, all in the name of outstanding fruity flavour.
“This travel exclusive collection gives consumers a unique opportunity to explore whiskies with time-honoured craft at the heart.”
The collection includes three Highland Single Malt expressions, each with an age statement and each showcasing the casks used to mature the spirit. The whiskies are presented in recyclable or reusable gift packs, with embossed product details and the signature of Glengoyne Distillery Manager Robbie Hughes.
The 1-litre Glengoyne 10 Year Old First Fill Edition has a 46% ABV, is un-chill filtered, with a recommended retail price of £59.99 (US$84). According to the brand, it marks a first for Glengoyne, with a focus on expensive and flavoursome first-fill casks and marrying spirit matured in two different cask types, bourbon and sherry.
Glengoyne 15 Year Old Pedro Xíménez Cask Edition (70cl, 48% ABV, un-chill-filtered, RRP £99, US$124) is limited to 3,000 bottles each year. The expression is finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and presented in a box.
Its introduction follows the success of Glengoyne Pedro Ximénez Cask, from the Spirit of Oak range, which won a Gold Outstanding Medal and Trophy in the IWSC awards Scotch whisky category in 2019.
With a yearly limit of just 1,400 bottles, the ultra-premium Glengoyne 26 Year Old Limited Edition (46.8% ABV, 70cl, RRP £699, US$999) is matured in Oloroso sherry casks to offer depth and complexity.
Glengoyne’s rebrand includes an updated illustration of its namesake goose across the range. The refreshed packaging features design cues inspired by the distillery’s connection to time.
Underscoring the distillery’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and the future, the rebrand also includes a move to recyclable and locally-sourced packaging. The Glengoyne 26 Year Old’s wooden box features removable elements and a plaque that can be replaced and personalised; an industry first, according to Ian Macleod Distillers.
“As one of Scotland’s greenest distilleries, it was also extremely important to us that our commitment to sustainability was reflected in the striking new packaging,” Ovens said.
