Ian Macleod Distillers has partnered with Dufry to launch a Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn Edinburgh Gin that is exclusive to the retailer.
The expression features across World Duty Free stores in the UK, as well as in key European airports where Dufry operates.
The 1-litre, 40% ABV Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn gin has a recommended retail price of £29.99 (US$35).
The expression features a blend of traditional gin botanicals, mixed with fresh notes of strawberry and balanced with spicy pink peppercorns. It is described as a “perfect berry twist to a classic G&T”, topped with a fresh strawberry and mint leaf.
The new flavour complements the existing range of full-strength gins – Rhubarb & Ginger, Watermelon & Lime and Classic – along with three popular Edinburgh Gin liqueurs: Rhubarb & Ginger, Raspberry and Elderflower.
According to Ian Macleod Distillers, Edinburgh Gin Raspberry liqueur led the booming flavoured gin category in 2010, with Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb & Ginger introduced in 2014.
“This formed the foundation of Edinburgh Gin’s pioneering approach to flavour,” the company pointed out. More recent examples include another Dufry-exclusive flavour, Watermelon & Lime.
The brand owner also noted that flavoured gin is driving growth in the category and represents 40% of sales in the UK off-trade.
Dufry Global Category Head of Liquor David de Miguel said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Ian Macleod Distillers and Edinburgh Gin in Europe.
“Edinburgh Gin Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn is a wonderful new flavour and the perfect addition to our portfolio.”
Ian Macleod Distillers Global Travel Retail Director William Ovens added: “The launch of Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn further showcases the flavour, craftsmanship and creativity of Edinburgh Gin.
“Dufry is the only customer in the world with which we have developed an ongoing programme of exclusive flavours, which illustrates the importance of our strategic partnership.”
In related news, the new Edinburgh Gin distillery and visitor centre is due to open in Edinburgh in 2023.
