Zurich Airport delivers commercial performance close to 2019 levels in September

SWITZERLAND. Zurich Airport retail and dining turnover reached CHF49.1 million (US$49.1 million) in September, a rise of +46.4% compared to September 2021. Encouragingly, the figure was around 93% of September 2019 turnover, which reached CHF52.5 million.

Sales were buoyed by a +67.9% rise in passenger traffic to 2.32 million in the month. Airside spend per passenger slipped by -6.6% year-on-year to CHF23.80 (US$23.83).

For the first nine months of 2022, commercial turnover reached CHF370.4 million (US$370.9 million), almost double last year’s number for the same period, with traffic up by +155% year-on-year to 16.4 million. Average spend per departing passenger was down by -4.9% in the nine months to CHF23.90 (US$23.94).

Zurich Airport passenger numbers are forecast rise to around 20 million in 2022, or two-thirds of pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, passenger traffic reached 10.2 million. The airport company also predicts a return to profit this year.
