Much-respected travel retail and drinks industry veteran Gaurav Joshi has launched Platinum Liquids, a distribution company based in Delhi, India.
Platinum Liquids will specialise in premium spirits and tobacco in global travel retail and high-end domestic markets across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa (AMEA).
Until very recently Joshi was Asia Pacific Director at Bacardi Global Travel Retail (GTR), a role he held for almost seven years as part of a 17-year stint at the premium drinks company in various leadership roles managing GTR in India and Southeast Asia.
Earlier in his career he held various executive positions at Godfrey Phillips (Phillips Morris) in India.
Joshi plans to leverage his experience and expertise in luxury goods, particularly alcohol and cigars, allied to a profound knowledge of the AMEA region, qualities that have already helped transform brands in global travel retail over recent years.
“Travel retail is where we create and incubate the brands of tomorrow,” Joshi said. “At Platinum Liquids, our mission is clear: to empower the next generation of brands, propelling them to new heights across key markets in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa through global retail channels.”
The premium spirits market in AMEA is set to have an ‘orbit shift’ and Platinum Liquids plans to be at the forefront, Joshi said.
“Emerging markets are driving immense opportunities,” he commented. “For instance, as per IWSR 2023, projected spirits CAGR23-28 for APAC & IMEA is +9.9%, the highest in GTR.
“India is projected to be one of the top three volume growth markets over the next five years, with one-third of the 30 fastest-growing spirits brands globally being Indian.
“Additionally, South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya present massive premium-plus opportunities,” Joshi observed.
“It’s an exciting time to be in this market, and I’m thrilled to leverage my experience to build Platinum Liquids.”
