Edinburgh Gin introduces The Tropics, a limited-edition London Dry Gin exclusive to the Edinburgh Airport World Duty Free store

SCOTLAND. Today’s selection of images is from Edinburgh Airport, where Ian Macleod Distillers is serving a taste of the tropics with the second Edinburgh Gin Traveller’s Collection release, created in partnership with Avolta.

The limited-edition London Dry Gin, named The Tropics, takes inspiration from the abundance of vibrant botanicals found in tropical regions.

The Tropics follows last year’s release, The Meadows – the inaugural expression in the Traveller’s Collection. The Meadows drew inspiration from Edinburgh’s famous green spaces.

The Traveller’s Collection series was created specifically for Avolta and is only available at its World Duty Free store at Edinburgh Airport. The range takes gin drinkers on a global journey, garnering inspiration from signature flavours around the world.

The Tropics joins Edinburgh Gin’s travel retail line-up at World Duty Free, including The Classic, Seaside, Rhubarb & Ginger, Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn, and the Avolta-exclusive Key Lime & Ginger, alongside three best-selling gin liqueurs: Rhubarb & Ginger, Raspberry and Elderflower.

To mark the launch, Edinburgh Gin Head Distiller David Wilkinson visited the boutique to meet the Avolta and Edinburgh Airport teams.

Avolta Global Category Head of Liquor David de Miguel commented, “The Edinburgh Gin boutique is a major attraction in our store at Edinburgh Airport and is a huge success. The Meadows sold out faster than we expected and we are now looking at The Tropics to perform at the same level.

“We are always looking to surprise and delight our customers with something unique, new and exciting, so we’re proud to offer this second exclusive as part of the Edinburgh Gin Traveller’s Exclusive Collection series.”

“We are delighted to introduce The Tropics at the Edinburgh Airport Edinburgh Gin boutique,” added Ian Macleod Distillers Head of Global Travel Retail William Ovens. “Our Master Distiller has really pushed the boundaries with this exotic yet highly accessible flavour profile; those who are lucky enough to have tasted it already have been hugely impressed.”

Edinburgh Gin Head Distiller David Wilkinson commented,“On the nose, The Tropics has coconutty aromas from the pandan leaf, complimented by citrus notes of lemongrass and Kaffir lime leaf. The gin has a creamy mouthfeel, with initial sweet flavours from the pandan leaves, balanced by zesty notes of lime. Savoury flavours of green peppercorns and bird’s eye chili give the gin a tingling after-taste.”

The Moodie Davitt Report recently announced the results of the inaugural TREX Awards. “Differentiation is key to creating real value in and consumer curiosity about travel retail. True TREXs do that, offering products of real value that by definition cannot be procured elsewhere,” said The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie. Nominations for the second TREX Awards will be called for later this year.
