Heathrow Airport passenger traffic hits new heights in September

Continued traffic growth at Heathrow presents strong opportunity for partner retailers and brands

UK. London Heathrow Airport served almost 7.4 million passengers in September, up by +0.8% year-on-year and a new record for the month. The growth came despite disruption caused by the Collins Aerospace IT issue that affected airline systems across Europe in the period.

Among key markets, traffic on EU routes posted +2.5% growth and Asia Pacific climbed +1.2% year-on-year. In the first nine months, passenger volumes passed 63.3 million, a rise of +0.3% on the same period last year.

In a statement, Heathrow saluted its status as Europe’s most punctual hub – see also our interview with Retail Director Fraser Brown from recent days – and was named the most connected airport in the world for the third consecutive year. Security performance also remained consistent, with 95% of passengers waiting less than five minutes in security, noted the company.

Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “This summer at Heathrow was one to be celebrated. Operating Europe’s largest airport doesn’t come without its challenges, but I’m proud that our team delivered under pressure — welcoming nearly 7.4 million passengers in September alone while maintaining strong performance in punctuality and security.

“We continued to lead the pack in global connectivity, all while keeping the passenger experience smooth for millions. It’s a clear sign that Heathrow is vital to the UK’s economic growth and why we will continue to invest in our airport – opening up even more opportunities for passengers, airlines and the country.”
