Anora raises a glass to World Aquavit Day with Moodie Davitt homepage makeover

Anora is celebrating World Aquavit Day (13 April) with a homepage makeover of The Moodie Davitt Report and an elegant treatment of our mobile website.

World Aquavit Day is a global celebration of the Nordic spirit with a heritage dating back to the 16th century. The special date is a chance to introduce aquavit to a new generation of consumers while reinforcing its deep cultural roots across Scandinavia.

Aquavit has historically featured in Nordic festive occasions, including Christmas, Easter and Midsummer. Through World Aquavit Day, that heritage is being both honoured and reinterpreted, with a focus on versatility, modern consumption and global relevance.

Wonderfully versatile: The How Do You Aqua? campaign encourages trial through multiple serve suggestions, from neat pours to cocktails and food pairings

World Aquavit Day is spearheaded by the ‘How Do You Aqua?’ initiative which encourages personal discovery and experimentation. The platform invites consumers to enjoy aquavit in their own way whether through cocktails, traditional neat serves or food pairings.

13 April marks the earliest recorded reference to aquavit, documented in a letter dated 1531 from Danish Lord of Bergenhus fortress Eske Bille to the last Roman Catholic Archbishop of Norway Olav Engelbrektsson. The letter and choice of date contains one of the first known mentions of aquavit, anchoring the modern celebration in a rich history.

Anora, the world’s largest aquavit producer, is leading the initiative. It manages a portfolio of more than 40 aquavit brands spanning Norway, Sweden and Denmark, including Linie Aquavit, Gammel Opland Aquavit, Aalborg Akvavit and O.P. Anderson Aquavit. Its portfolio strength and longstanding expertise have positioned the group as a key custodian of the category.

The company has also received multiple industry accolades, including the title of Aquavit Producer of the Year at the International Spirits Challenge Awards, underlining its leadership within the segment.

Anora Aquavit Master Blender Jonas Odland commented: “Aquavit is a true Nordic gift, offering rich and diverse experiences. It’s the only spirit designed to pair with food, enhancing flavours beautifully. It also makes a great base for unique cocktails, while cask-aged varieties are perfect for sipping neat. In my opinion, Aquavit is the world’s most versatile spirit.”

Anora Marketing Director Mika Raukko added, “We encourage producers of aquavit, bars and restaurants serving aquavit, and aquavit lovers all over the world to join us on this World Aquavit Day and show the versatility of this spirit and the many ways it can be enjoyed.”
