“A strong and sustainable business” – BTA marks ten years at Zagreb Airport

CROATIA. TAV Airports food & beverage subsidiary BTA is marking a decade of business at Zagreb Airport, the largest gateway to Croatia.

Over that period, BTA has invested more than €6 million in the market and today serves an average of over 144,000 passengers every month. Since entering the Croatian market in 2016, BTA has expanded its workforce from 117 employees to 214 by 2026.

Beyond the terminal outlets, BTA has become a leading inflight catering provider, delivering onboard catering services to 26 airline and aviation partners, including Croatia Airlines, Ryanair and T’way Air, and reaching around 95,000 airline passengers every month.

The company also supports customers in 16 countries through its food production facility, which it said reinforces its role as an international hospitality and catering partner.

BTA CEO Baha Bülbül said: “Celebrating the 10th anniversary of BTA Croatia is an important milestone that reflects the strength of our long-term vision and our commitment to service excellence.

“Over the past decade, we have built a strong and sustainable business through close collaboration with our local partners, operational excellence and an unwavering focus on enhancing the passenger experience. As we look ahead, Zagreb will continue to play an important role in our international growth strategy as we further strengthen our presence across Europe.”

Zagreb Airport CEO Hüseyin Bahadır Bedir said: “For the past ten years, BTA Croatia has been a valued partner in enhancing the passenger experience at Zagreb Airport.

“Their commitment to quality, consistency and innovation in food & beverage services has enriched our terminal and welcomed millions of passengers with genuine hospitality. We are proud to celebrate this important milestone with BTA and look forward to achieving even greater success together in the years ahead.”

BTA said in a statement that each concept in the terminal has been designed based on passenger behaviour, traffic flow and dwell time, “ensuring the right products and services are offered in the right locations”.

Grab-and-go concepts are positioned in arrivals to meet immediate passenger needs, while departures feature a broader mix of cafés, restaurants, retail and comfort-focused concepts for travellers spending more time in the terminal.

According to the latest passenger satisfaction survey conducted by Nielsen, Zagreb Airport’s food & beverage outlets achieved an overall satisfaction score of 91%, and demonstrate consistently high levels of guest satisfaction.

Advancing sustainability

BTA Croatia continues to underline its environmental commitments through recognised sustainability initiatives. Its Cakes & Bakes brand operates under the Food Made Good certification awarded by the Sustainable Restaurant Association, reflecting its commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable operations.

Food waste generated across the terminal is collected separately and processed by licensed waste management partners to enable energy recovery from biological waste.

As part of its sustainability roadmap, BTA aims to replace all multilayer composite single-use packaging with fully biodegradable alternatives by the end of 2026.

In parallel, the company is implementing the gradual phase-out of single-use portion packs for products such as sugar, honey and sauces in line with evolving European regulations, with the transition expected to be completed by June 2027.

*BTA was among the big winners at the 2026 Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Conference and Awards, held in Bengaluru last week. Its JV operations at Antalya Airport (which will host the FAB event on 3-4 June 2027) earned nine awards across multiple categories.
