CHINA. China Duty Free Group (CDFG) celebrated the opening of its 2,087sq m Xiamen downtown duty-free store on 5 September.
Jointly developed by the retailer and Xiangye Group, a Xiamen-based state-owned enterprise, the store is located on the first floor of Zhonghua City, a major shopping complex in Xiamen’s central commercial district.
The cdf Xiamen downtown duty-free store spans 2,087sq m and houses both duty-free and duty-paid goods and imported and domestic products.

The duty-free section offers international brands across fragrances & cosmetics, spirits, watches, jewellery, eyewear and electronics, plus a strong Chinese brand selection. Travellers flying from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport can purchase items in-store up to 60 days in advance and collect them in departures.
The duty-paid offering features a ‘China Chic’ zone showcasing domestic spirits, electronics, cosmetics, watches, wellness products and gifts. Overseas shoppers spending RMB200 (US$29.80) or more on eligible duty-paid items qualify for an immediate tax refund.
The retailer described its latest opening as a “response to national policies encouraging consumption and expanding domestic demand”, as well as part of its effort to “upgrade duty-free services and contribute to the country’s new development frameworks”.
China Tourism Group Deputy General Manager Lin Nüchao joined government officials and guests at the opening ceremony themed ‘New Wave of Duty Free’.

Xiamen, a major coastal port city in the south-eastern Fujian province, is a hub along the 21st-century ‘Maritime Silk Road’, with rich cultural tourism resources.
The store has also introduced a ‘single-package, single-barcode’ refund system that allows Customs clearance without opening packages, and supports refund processing for departures from other ports within 28 days, to deliver a smooth, integrated shopping experience.
The store design incorporates elements of Minnan (southern Fujian) and Nanyang (China’s southern coastal region) styles, such as restored decorative tiles and shophouses, to pay homage to Xiamen’s architectural and cultural history. A dedicated bistro inside the store serves signature drinks, offering a one-stop setting for retail, relaxation and social media sharing, said CDFG.

To celebrate the opening, the store is offering a range of promotions, including storewide discounts from -40% off, RMB200 off duty-free purchases, and a RMB100 (US$14.90) discount on duty-paid purchases over RMB300 (US$44.70).
In addition, cdf members can receive an exclusive RMB666 (US$99.24) coupon pack upon visit, with additional discounts and 10x loyalty points. Customers with purchases above set thresholds can also enter a lucky draw for prizes including luxury hotel vouchers and branded luggage.
“The Xiamen downtown store strengthens our national duty-free network, offering a retail platform that integrates shopping, culture and experience while delivering high-quality, convenient services to support local economic growth,” said a CDFG statement.
“The opening will diversify Xiamen’s retail landscape, boost market activity, support the city’s goal of becoming an international consumption hub and drive high-quality regional development.” ✈
