UK. The UK Travel Retail Forum (UKTRF) has welcomed the States of Guernsey’s decision to drop changes to the duty regime which threatened transport connections and the tourism sector.
UKTRF Chair Nigel Keal said the decision was a win for visitors and islanders alike.

The Policy and Resources Committee carried out a review of allowances, which was announced in the 2026 Budget. The Committee concluded that duty-free allowances should remain unchanged after hearing from UKTRF and other experts.
Keal said: “Thank you to everyone across the industry who came together on this. It shows what can be achieved by working together, and the importance of the duty free sector to Guernsey’s tourism, connectivity and economy.”
During the review, UKTRF and its members engaged with the States of Guernsey, setting out the importance of duty-free tourism, the wider Guernsey economy and the viability of air and sea services serving the self-governing British Crown Dependency.
These points were recognised by the Policy & Resources Committee in its Budget report, a UKTRF statement noted. ✈
