A colourful expression of Karnataka’s cultural identity: The Dasara Gombe showcase at Kempegowda International Airport introduces travellers to the artistry and age-old traditions behind one of the state’s cherished Dasara customs

INDIA. Today’s image selection, shared by Bangalore International Airport Limited, captures the vibrant Naadahabba Dasara celebrations at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru, bringing together colour, cultural heritage and festive cheer.

From adding their own artistic touches to traditional dolls to discovering the stories behind local crafts, travellers at Bengaluru Airport can make their pre-flight experience a little more colourful and culturally enriching

Taking place across terminals 1 and 2 from 12 to 17 October, the airport festivities draw inspiration from Naadahabba Dasara, the annual ten-day festival known for its sacred rituals, royal traditions and vibrant public celebrations.

More than a visual centrepiece, the showcase celebrates Karnataka’s living heritage, using traditional craftsmanship and storytelling to deepen travellers’ appreciation of the region’s cultural identity

The airport has also curated a programme of live music, classical and folk dance performances, and Togalu Gombeyaata, a traditional form of leather shadow puppetry.

The Dasara Gombe showcase presents a captivating collection of figurines that reflect Karnataka’s rich visual culture

A key highlight in T2 is Dasara Gombe by Padma Shri Anupama Hoskere, a showcase inspired by Gombe Habba, Karnataka’s tradition of displaying dolls during Dasara. Through traditional toys and figurines depicting stories and characters, the display brings the region’s folklore and age-old customs to life.

With this cultural showcase, the airport aims to offer travellers a deeper connection to Karnataka, allowing them to experience something of the state’s heritage beyond its role as a tourist destination. ✈
