Bowmore blends Indian artistry with Islay heritage with TREX Kalamkari edition for Diwali

Intricate peacock and sea dragon motifs combine with gold detailing to connect traditional Indian craftsmanship with Bowmore’s whisky heritage

Suntory Global Spirits has introduced festive travel retail-exclusive (TREX) packaging for the Bowmore 14 Year Old single malt whisky.

The expression is inspired by the traditional Indian art form Kalamkari. The name derives from kalam, meaning pen, and kari, meaning craftsmanship or work. It features hand-drawn or block-printed designs

The launch whisky is supported by activations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru and London Heathrow.

At Delhi Duty Free, the whisky is being showcased by a high-profile promotion throughout October and November, coinciding with Diwali (the Hindu festival of lights).

At Bengaluru and London Heathrow, Bowmore Kalamkari activations combine gifting, product discovery and flavour. A curated chocolate-pairing experience invites travellers to sample different Bowmore whiskies with a chocolate box available as a gift with purchase.

The expression combines illustrations, layered textures and gold detailing across a wraparound design. The design is centred on a Kalamkari peacock which symbolises celebration, protection and good fortune. It appears alongside Bowmore’s sea dragon motif, reinterpreted in classic Indian motifs.

Illustrations of the distillery and its No.1 Vaults maturation warehouse connect the design to Bowmore’s Islay origins, while fruit and spice motifs reference the whisky’s flavour profile.

Bowmore 14 Year Old debuted in 2024 as part of the TREX Appellations series, which explores the influence of wine regions on the distillery’s single malts. The collection was the subject of a striking Moodie Davitt Spotlight Series eZine.

The whisky is matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and finished in Bordeaux barriques. It is bottled at 43% ABV. The whisky offers smoke and orchard fruit flavours with berry sweetness from the wine-cask finish.

Suntory Global Spirits Managing Director Global Travel Retail (GTR) Middle East and Africa Vanessa Widmann commented, “Diwali is an important time of celebration, connection and gifting for millions of people around the world.

“We are delighted to collaborate with our travel retail partners on this special edition that celebrates the artistry of Kalamkari and offers travellers a distinctive gift for the festive season.” ✈
