GERMANY. Smartseller, the joint venture between Gebr. Heinemann and casualfood, has taken over Bremen Airport’s food & beverage business under a ten-year contract secured through an open tender process, with operations commencing on 1 November.
The win extends Smartseller’s German airport portfolio to four locations. Initially, the company will continue operating the existing main terminal duty-free shop and adjacent F&B outlet, which were previously managed separately.

Smartseller Managing Director Lars Hennecke said: “Winning the contract in Bremen confirms that our model fits the needs of regional airports. We are very pleased the airport has placed its trust in us, and we look forward to developing the location together over the long term.
“Together with Bremen Airport, we want to bring the region’s distinctive character into the new space and create an offering that is firmly rooted in the location.”

The main terminal spaces are set to be reconfigured in early 2027, combining the existing shop and F&B outlet into a single unit of around 880sq m, scheduled to open in the second quarter.
The project reflects Smartseller’s ‘You Are Here’ concept, developed to give travellers an immediate sense of place through a combination of retail and F&B, regional products, local partnerships and destination-led design.
The Bremen space will reflect the region’s character and include a dedicated children’s area to enhance the experience for families.

The space is set for further expansion in April 2029, with an additional area designed primarily for F&B, taking the overall footprint to approximately 1,000sq m.

Bremen Airport joins Smartseller’s growing network as its fourth German airport location, alongside Münster/Osnabrück, Leipzig/Halle and Nuremberg. Together with its international operation at Ljubljana Airport, this brings the company’s total to five airport locations and further strengthens its presence in the small- and medium-sized airport segment.
