‘A Dram Disgrace’: Becky Paskin leads workshop on sexism in whisky industry

World of Spirits Virtual Expo Director Becky Paskin is taking a leading role in an online workshop today which explores sexism in the whisky industry. As reported, World of Spirits, created by The Moodie Davitt Report, is set to break new ground next May with a pioneering digital format designed for consumers and drinks industry professionals alike.

World of Spirits Director Becky Paskin was named IWSC Spirits Communicator of the Year earlier this month

‘A Dram Disgrace’, which airs today (26 November), is the first of a Just Platform series focused on whisky, women and sexism. It aims to address gender bias and discrimination in the whisky industry and is supported by Edinburgh’s Just Festival social justice and human rights festival.

Paskin will speak at A Dram Disgrace alongside Just Festival Board Member and ELE Global CEO Helen Foord.

The event follows Paskin’s condemnation of well-known whisky critic Jim Murray’s use of sexist language in his latest 2020 Whisky Bible.

Paskin, who is co-founder of OurWhisky, and former editor of Scotchwhisky.com and The Spirits Business, took to social media to air her views and quickly gained huge support from across the whisky and drinks industry.

The Moodie Davitt Report Founder and Chairman Martin Moodie expressed his opinion, and underlined Paskin’s courage in speaking out, in his recent Blog Booting out biblical references unfit for a civilised society.

As reported, Paskin was named IWSC Spirits Communicator of the Year earlier this month. She said she was “incredibly humbled” by the recognition.

“I’m told one of the reasons why I’ve been named Spirits Communicator of the Year is for my work championing diversity and inclusion within the whisky industry. I’m proud to say that work will continue over the next year and beyond and I am excited to work with the whisky industry to achieve greater equality and inclusivity in the future” – World of Spirits Expo Director Becky Paskin

Paskin is leading the World of Spirits, alongside The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman (and spirits aficionado) Martin Moodie.

The event (scheduled to take place on 17-23 May 2021) will bring together ten exciting spirits categories, including no- and low-alcohol and RTDs, under one ‘roof’, in a virtual expo hall designed to not only replicate but even enhance the experience of a real-life exhibition.
