Africa meets New York at Kipling – 05/01/09

Beach-bound: Kipling’s ad campaign for Spring/Summer 09

BELGIUM. Belgian supplier Kipling has taken inspiration from the 1980s for its Spring/Summer 09 casual bag collections.

Within the Basic line, the fluorescent green Kyna is described as Kipling’s take on the classic swimming bags of the 80s, and has black straps (pictured left).

Other pieces include the Uki, an envelope bag, and the Alvar, a zipper bag that can be worn either as a shoulder bag or a crossover bag.

Colours available in the Basic collection include blue, black, red and pink.

IF collection’s African remix

Prints are used widely in Kipling’s IF collection, where the company says “Africa meets New York” for trolley cases, bags and accessories featuring topical prints of women from all over the world.

This season, for the first time, the Kumani print bag comes in a mini beach collection, including a trendy beach bag, alongside the usual bag and trolley bag models.

The brown-and-white Cheetah print is inspired by the colouring of a cheetah. Styles include the New York trolley case; Pink Jumble, described as a girly jungle print in strong pink; and the Adara summery beach bag.
