APTRA endorses Trinity Forum as world’s major airport commercial revenue conference heads to Shanghai – 17/01/08

CHINA. The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) today pledged its support for the forthcoming ACI Airport Business & Trinity Forum to be held in Shanghai on 31 March-2 April.

APTRA President Sunil Tuli said: “We are happy to be associated with this important industry conference. The Trinity Forum has been very successful in the past, and the alliance with ACI will ensure quality speakers and attendance. I am very pleased that Shanghai has been chosen as the venue this year, showing the importance of our region for the industry.”

The Trinity Forum, as it is commonly known, is a joint venture between The Moodie Report and Airports Council International (ACI). This year’s event is hosted by Shanghai Airport Authority. Since its inception in 2003 The Trinity Forum has emerged as the world’s most influential conference on airport commercial revenues.

P&G Prestige Products and Lagardère Services, the owner of Aelia and HDS, are Platinum Sponsors.

Shanghai Airport Authority is delighted to host the world’s premier airport commercial revenues conference

Other sponsors announced to date include Nuance-Watson (HK), which will host the day one lunch, and King Power Group (HK), one of a “˜Trinity’ of sponsors of the Opening Cocktail at the alluring Bund 18 (it will be joined by an airport and brand to complete the Trinity). Dubai Duty Free is another sponsor and will offer tickets in its popular prize draws to lucky delegates.

The event will feature exclusive film footage of some of the world’s most cutting edge airport commercial developments, produced by Marshall Arts International.

The two-part feature includes Hong Kong International Airport, Vancouver International Airport, ATU (Istanbul, Tbilisi and Batumi), Travel Retail Norway (Oslo), Dufry (Brazil, Mexico and Milan), BAA USA (Baltimore), Bangalore International Airport and BAA UK (Heathrow T5). The latter two airports will both have opened just before the event.

The Trinity Forum has caused great excitement in Shanghai, especially as it is being linked to another glamour ACI event – the important ‘ACI Airport Service Quality (ASQ) and Facilitation Conference’ (31 March & 1 April).

The latter’s ASQ Awards – the most prestigious awards in the airport industry – will be held during a joint conference Gala Dinner on 1 April. This will ensure very strong participation by the world’s leading airports at both events. The elegant Pudong Shangri-La Hotel is the joint Forum and Conference venue.

‘The Trinity’ has become an integral element of the industry’s vocabulary since the Forum was launched in 2003

The spectacular Shanghai Science & Technology Museum* has been chosen as the venue for the Gala Dinner. And the Opening Cocktail will be held at the prestigious Bund 18, a leading nightspot on the famous The Bund (embankment) area of Shanghai on the banks of the Huang Pu River

*About the Shanghai Science & Technology Musuem

“˜Nature, Man, Science & Technology’ is the theme of the Museum, a spectacular infrastructure that is one of Shanghai’s most popular tourist and local attractions. Its 12 Theme Exhibition Halls vary in style and embody a mix of hi-tech and science education.

The modern science park comprises four scientific theatres, six new-media theatres, two artful basso-relievo corridors, the Spider! Exhibition and the Natural Heritage area.

POWERFUL PRESENTERS’ LINE-UP

A powerful ‘Trinity’: Lagardère Services, embracing Aelia and HDS (which in turn runs the acclaimed Relay and Virgin concepts), has signed as a Platinum Sponsor of the Forum

The Trinity programme will feature a presentation from Shanghai Airport Authority as well as a powerful line-up of leading international names. All speeches will be linked by an overriding theme – the need for a much more consumer-driven approach by airports towards commercial revenues in order to drive footfall, penetration and spend.

Presentations will include:

HMSHost CEO Elie Maalouf will talk about delivering a world-class food & beverage offer.

Incheon International Airport Corporation President and CEO Jae-Hee Lee will deliver an important insight into the South Korean gateway’s evolving approach to non-aeronautical revenues – and its ambitious plans to create new commercial concepts.

Ivo Favotto, Executive Vice President Business Development & Strategy at The Nuance Group, will give what he promises will be a landmark speech on new concepts for airports – more details in coming weeks.

Mark Riches, Managing Director of World Duty Free, will speak just after the 27 March opening of the spectacular London Heathrow T5 (either in person in Shanghai or by live feed from Heathrow) to deliver a compelling insight into the brave new world of airport retailing.

New Aelia CEO Jean-Baptiste Morin will weigh in with a personal and corporate reflection on the future of travel retail, in his first speaking commitment since assuming the role. Nick Forbes, General Manager Retail at Auckland International Airport Limited will set the airport company’s decision to open one of the biggest Arrivals shops in the world (1,600sq m) in the context of a ‘business case analysis’ of the industry drivers that drove the decision.

Johan Schölvinck, Airport Economist NACO (Netherlands Airport Consultants) and Innova Aviation and Mr Guo Yanchi, Chief Architect China Airport Construction Group Corporation of CACC will jointly present a fascinating paper themed “˜Urumqi Airport Retail – something different in Northwest China’.

HDS Retail Asia Pacific CEO Scott Raisin will examine how to grow the important news/gifts/speciality sector.

Other sessions include “˜Understanding how your consumer shops – or doesn’t shop’, featuring the latest technology by Garry Stasiulevicuis of Consumer Watch; “˜Cutting Edge – State of the art airport commercial developments’; “˜Creating the ultimate consumer experience’; “˜China’s great journey’; and “˜Dreamstore: The best of the best’ – analysing the elite locations in the world of travel retail.

The Shanghai event follows the huge success of the 2007 Trinity Forum, held in Dubai, which attracted over 330 delegates. For images from that event click here.
