SPAIN. Starbucks has opened a new coffee shop at Madrid-Barajas Airport Terminal 4 in collaboration with leading retail and F&B services company Areas. The 574sq m outlet follows an investment of €828,000 in the unit.
With the opening, Starbucks adds a third outlet at Madrid Airport. It is already present in T1 and at the T4 Satellite. The partnership also operates a coffee shop at Alicante Airport.
Starbucks now runs 83 outlets in Spain: 73 self-owned coffee shops managed by Grupo Vips (Starbucks Coffee’s partner in the country) and another ten outlets operated under license.
The inauguration is part of what Areas says is an “ambitious project to remodel the gastronomical offering at Madrid-Barajas Airport, which is progressing as planned”.
Areas is currently investing €25 million in 47 food & beverage outlets across 17,270sq m of commercial space at Madrid. These are expected to deliver €1.48 billion in turnover over ten years.
Note: The annual Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Conference & Awards, which champions the best in travel-related F&B activity, will be held in Copenhagen on 9-11 June. For more information on the event, organised by The Moodie Report and The Foodie Report, visit www.FABAwards2014.com
