PORTUGAL. Areas Portugal has partnered with Starbucks to open the first franchised Starbucks coffee shop in the country, at Lisbon Airport.
The shop is located in a new commercial area of the boarding area, past the check-in counters and security control, covering 120sq m. As we reported last week, Lisbon Airport has opened a new airside zone in the latest phase of a €350 modernisation drive.
Although it is the eight Starbucks branch to be opened in Portugal, this is the first franchised store in the country.

The design of the Starbucks shop harks back to the first Seattle branch, opened in 1971 |
“Like the other seven already present in Portugal, the airport coffee shop will offer 87,000 different ways of drinking coffee, good music and a unique experience,” said Starbucks Portugal Director of Operations Luís Rocha e Mello.
“We want to be where the Portuguese are, and that’s why we are so pleased with this special location. Starbucks is already a regular at other airports, and its presence is highly valued, now in Lisbon as well.”
He added that the design for the store was based on the atmosphere of the world’s first ever Starbucks branch, opened in Seattle in 1971: “an intense and vibrant market coffee shop with a modern twist”.
