Areas responds to traveller needs with five F&B openings at Girona Costa Brava Airport

SPAIN. Areas has completed a renovation of the food & beverage offer at Girona Costa Brava Airport, which includes the opening of five concepts.

International fast food brand Burger King (pictured below) features a large outdoor terrace, and is located in the boarding area. Another opening is restaurant/cafeteria La Pausa, which offers travellers a variety of grilled seafood and meat dishes, as well as appetisers and hot and cold sandwiches.

Exploring The World from Girona with San Miguel (pictured below) features a range of beers, wines and tapas and is located in the check-in area. A Carlsberg Pub is situated on another of the airport’s terraces, while a Lavazza coffee shop in the arrivals area offers a range of baked goods and sandwiches.

The new concepts cover a total area of 4,000sq m.

During the peak season, Areas will also operate a Torrons Vicens pop-up store, which serves Catalan’s famous nougat (pictured below).

Areas already operates Caffriccio, Subway, Medas and Food Gallery concepts at Girona-Costa Brava Airport, as well as a Divers store. It is the only catering operator at the Catalan airport, with a concession period of five to eight years.

“This renovation follows Areas’ line of commitment as regards providing innovative, quality and different concepts that modernise and improve the gastronomic offer and respond to the real needs of travellers,” said Areas Global CEO Oscar Vela.

“[This commitment to the traveller] has enabled the company to lead the travel retail and food & beverage market in Spain and be the main airport travel retail operator.”

Girona Costa Brava Airport handled more than two million passengers in 2018, a 3.8% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
