LATIN AMERICA. The Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) is expecting up to 350 delegates to attend its annual conference from 3 to 6 June.
The key annual gathering of Latin America’s travel retail industry opens this Wednesday at the Westin Playa Bonita hotel, just outside Panama City.
ASUTIL Secretary-General José Luis Donagaray told The Moodie Report that preparations for the event have proceeded very smoothly.
“By Wednesday there should be as many as 350 delegates, which is an increase of about +5% from last year,” Donagaray said.
The Westin Playa Bonita opened only in 2012 |
Panama’s central location, economical room rates at the still-new resort and a strong speaker line-up have all contributed to the healthy registration numbers, Donagaray said.
“Panama is an important hub for the Americas and has the longest history in duty free of any country in the region.
“Our speakers will explore regional themes and events like the border store situation and the development of Rio Airport, but will also analyse issues in markets like Europe and Russia and global economic developments.”
Once again exhibitor space for the event has been strongly oversubscribed, with the nine available stands booked out as soon as they became available on 10 March.
Late registrations for the event can be made through the conference website or by emailing conferencia@asutil.org.
